The road is a moderate climb with several switchbacks. Without almost no trees, it offers great Bay Area views: I could see from SJ to SF. It's also exposed to the sun, especially after noon.

Leisurely hill climb on the west side of the loop heading toward Calero Reservoir. On a warm day, the open terrain makes you appreciate your bottle of water.

The Calero Bat Inn is a daytime retreat for local pest-eating mammals. A fence keeps you from getting close and disturbing their sleep.
