Runner Notes

Use care as the route is steep and slippery as it desends into the ravine.

Description

The spur to Gavilan Falls begins about mile 1.0 off of the Gavilan Trail #60. The spur is marked by an official sign on a tree, "Gavilan Falls 1/4 mile."

The route starts wide and relatively smooth through the forest. After a short distance, the path narrows to a point that it's difficult to know which way to go, then ends in shambles on the edge of the ravine. Follow it as best as possible (or one of the social trails) and carefully scramble down into the ravine. Run upstream to Gavilan Falls about 0.25 miles from the main trail.

Gavilan Falls has four drops, two of which are visible from this vantage point. The other two are accessed by a tricky scramble upstream.

Flora & Fauna

Wildflowers are abundant near the falls in the early spring. In June, I saw Franciscan bluebells, western red columbine, and Richardson's geraniums, among others.
