Need to Know
There are no restrooms on this hike. It is in between towns, so not very close to cafes, stores, etc.
Runner Notes
The trail is mostly gravel along the lake, then dirt with some rocks through the woods and along the flumes, which can become muddy.
Description
The trailhead begins off the new Skyway facing the Lake DeSabla Reservoir. The trail fist goes along the left width side of the lake on a wide gravel and dirt trail, facing away from the road. At the edge of the lake, it turns left and ascends gradually through the woods on a clear trail.
When you reach Billups Lane, there is an option to turn right for a short distance, then another right at the intersection of Understock Road. Here, the trail continues next to the flumes, which have a gentle stream flowing through them.
The trail meanders between the long side of the lake and the Skyway, with enough of a running path along the road, which leads back to the parking lot.
Flora & Fauna
You'll be surrounded by trees, mostly redwoods, and pines and deciduous trees along the flumes. Wildlife such as several species of birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and deer live around the lake and may be seen on the hike.
