Runner Notes

I did it in running shoes. Through forests, alps and rocky trails.

Description

I started my two-day hike at the cable car station for the Stockhorn in Erlenbach. There is a parking area on the opposite side of the street, or if you take public transportation, get off at the train station Erlenbach im Simmental.

I chose the trail to the Hinterstockenlake, which leads through the alps and forests. There are small wells close to the huts where you can refill your bottle with fresh alpine water. Food and drinks are also available in small shops, but it is expensive.

At the lake, there are official fireplaces, picnic tables, and restrooms. Overnight stays or camping anywhere is prohibited. It is possible to bring your fishing pole, but only with the license, it is allowed to catch fish.

In the second part to the mountain, you can spot marmots. The chances are higher in the morning when there are fewer tourists.

From the peak of the mountain, I walked down to the Oberstockenlake. There are several ways back down to Erlenbach or in the direction of Gurnigel Berghütte. I chose to continue to Gurnigel and climbed both Hohmad and Gantrisch mountains.

From the peak of the Gantrisch, I walked down to Morgetepass until Gantrischlake. At the small lake, follow the sign to Gurnigel Berghütte until you arrive at the parking area Rüschegg, where there is the sign to go down to the Blumenstein village.

In Blumenstein, I took the bus back to the train station in the city of Thun.
