Where the Marston Trail hits a junction, this is the righthand fork (note: only use this trail for going up, not down). The trail is flat for a few tenths of a mile, then begins to climb and the forest floor turns to sand. Coe Slide is lots of long, inclined slabs and is very steep. Black mats of algae or lichen (or something) live on many of these slabs and they make it very slippery, so avoid stepping on them. The sand can also make the rocks slick. On the other hand, it is a beautiful view of OJI from the slide.

The trail goes under the trees for another tenth of a mile before emerging on the summit of Coe, which features views of OJI, Doubletop, the Brothers, Owl, Barren, and Hamlin Peak of Katahdin. It is 1.3 miles between the Marston Trail junction and the summit of Coe.

Leaving the summit, the trail ducks down into a beautiful forest for some easy running for 1.4 miles, until the junction for the South Brother Trail, which is a spur to the east. Then again there is 0.6 miles of nearly flat, easy running between the South Brother Trail junction and the intersection with North Brother Trail and Marston Trail.

This trail is mostly below treeline, with the only truly exposed parts being the Coe Slide and the summit of Coe. Many people do Coe and the Brothers as a loop, since all three have excellent views--those people generally go up the Mount Coe Trail and down the Marston Trail.
