This is an easy link between two famous wineries. The road out of Taquil is steep and treacherous in a car or truck but much easier on foot or horseback. Departing the emerald valley you gain most of your vertical in the first mile or so, then descend into a great valley flanked by mountains.

Along the road there are fascinating geological points, a small town and school (see video) where the outback people are always excited to see people. Also along the way is Bodega Humanao, and finally arriving at the 4/5 star Colome bodega and estancia.

Each of the wineries with their irrigation are stark contrasts to the high alpine desert.
