Need to Know

-Access to the parking area is via a non-maintained Jeep/Truck trail that intersects with Dona Ana County Rd. 064.

-Puncture Resistant gloves are recommended due to heavy cactus presence on the upper portions of the trail.

Description

From the first parking area, follow the truck road to the second parking area and continue on the footpath that leads out of it. The path is relatively recognizable and marked with cairns at multiple points; continue on this path for approximately 1 mile until reaching the base of the headwall. At the headwall, the trail gives way to open face rock (there are often rock climbers here).

From the headwall, there is not a directly recognizable path, however there are some obvious signs of regular travel along the recommended route. Take a left and continue wrapping along the headwall making upward progress as possible. After a final steep ascent through a rubble/scree field you'll find yourself in the saddle between with both east and west peaks clearly visible.

Flora & Fauna

Various Cactus, Yucca and Aloe; be mindful of Rattlesnake presence during summer months.
