Need to Know

Optional access available at Nine Mile Trailhead about 4 miles on Summit Road from Hwy 204

While there appears to be a small trailhead off NF-021, there is little to no parking and no signage. Instead, take NF-050 and turn right after less than a mile onto NF-020. There is ample parking here and an actual trailhead. Trailhead is marked "Horseshoe Prairie Trailhead". Take trail #3080.

Description

This is multi-use trail and generally very well maintained by the Forest Service. The trail weaves in and out of forested sections opening up to vistas of the Wilderness. It is particularly gorgeous in late May/early June when the snow finally retreats and the wildflowers bloom in carpets of color. In snow season, a portion of the trail is marked as a ski trail is part of the Horseshoe Prairie Nordic Ski Area. The Rim Trail segment goes from the Horseshoe Prairie Trailhead on the groomed Tamarack to the Viewpoint Cutoff junction. Note that is rated Most Difficult for skiing.
