Overview

This is a demanding but fun run very close by to the capital city Santiago. There are very good views all around, both towards the Santiago Valley as well as deeper into the mountains with their snow covered peaks. It is a fairly popular route on the weekends. The final reward is a small plateau with a single tree in the middle, and where you can run around to get uninterrupted panoramic views. Fair amounts of snow can be encountered even well into the shoulder seasons.

Description

This trail starts at the Puente Ñilhue Trailhead. There is a 3000 peso fee per person.

From the very start of the trail, the slope extends ever upwards with almost no respite. During the first few meters, there is a chain connected to the rocks which is used to climb, but it should not prove too difficult for most people.

Upon reaching the dirt road, you must continue forward, following it for a few meters before leaving once again for the smaller trail which again starts climbing in elevation at a fast rate, and continues the trend all the way to the plateau.

There is a source of water along the way, and a slight detour exists to Vallecito at about the 1.5km mark.

Flora & Fauna

Arid plants and cactus. Not many animals will be visible on this trail as it has a lot of visitors which keeps them away. You might see the occasional eagle.
