Description

Now part of the mainland,"Granville Island" gets its name from pre-1800s West Virginia, when this section of land existed as an island in the Monongahela River. Granville Island Trail runs through a section of the Monongahela River floodplain, and can become extremely wet, muddy, or impassable following heavy rains. When dry, this trail passes through a beautiful bottomlands forest next to the river and is much flatter and easier than most trails at the Core Arboretum. Several side trails lead out to forest openings on the river bank, where you can sit, relax, and watch the river and its wildlife.
