Description

The route begins at the Steese Highway, milepost 42.5, and climbs steeply to a ridge, the boundary of the National Recreation Area. The trail follows the open ridgeline eastward before turning north.

It then continues, for a short section, through spruce forests and open meadows to its junction with the Lower Nome Creek Trail, which leads down to Nome Creek.

The route continues its descent all the way to Ophir Creek. Cross here and then climb a short and steep section to another ridge. Follow the trail markers across the open area. The trail then traverses a hillside for a long while before dropping down and crossing Beaver Creek.

From here, continue through tall white spruce and cross O'Brien Creek. The last bit of the route is a climb to the junction with the Trail Creek Trail.
