Description

Part of Soapstone Prairie Natural Area, managed by the city of Fort Collins, Soapstone Prairie is very big, exposed, and pretty remote. Be sure to bring plenty of water and supplies as you might be alone out there.

This trail can be accessed by heading east out of the southern parking lot, or alternatively, heading east on Mahogany Loop from the northern parking lot and then cutting south at the trail junction after half a mile.

This is a multi-use trail shared with mountain bikers and equestrians. The area is grazed by sheep and cattle, so look out for them as well. The trail spans a mixture of rolling hills, grasslands, and arroyos (or dry creek bed or wash).

You can run this trail as a loop, or use it to access other trails: Mahogany Loop on the northwest corner, Sand Wash Trail on the northeast corner, and Plover Trail on the southeast corner.

Most of the trail is easy singletrack except for the eastern side of the trail which is doubletrack. It's an easy trail and would be a great place to bring the kids.
