Overview

This is a long day out where you can enjoy an alpine-like setting not too far from town.

Need to Know

The public transportation in Switzerland is superb so you should be able to catch a bus that can take you to the train station in Aigle. From there, you can head back easily by train.

Description

If starting from Territet, you'll climb first to Rochers de Naye. Along the way, you'll run on a mix of roads and forest trails. Towards the end, it gets rockier as you approach Rochers de Naye. Here, you can stop at the restaurant and have an expresso and a pie—you'll need the extra calories for the coming sections!

As you leave Rochers de Naye, you'll be running in an alpine-like setting; the crazy thing is that it is not far from the city! This is what makes this area special. Parts of the trail are very narrow, rocky, and covered with some grass, which makes it challenging for running. Sometimes, it is hard to see the rocks under the grass so be careful. Towards Col de Chaude, you'll run on a ridge with minimum exposure but breathtaking views. The descent through the forest switchbacks allows you to gain some speed on some really nice singletrack.

As you leave Col de Chaude, you'll start another climb to the ridge prior to Malatraix. Again, you'll enjoy an amazing technical trail with stunning views. However, this can be a bit exposed, so treat it with care!

From Malatraix, start the descent towards a beautiful forest along a deep gorge (at times) until you reach the town of Roche.
