Description

From the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center at the intersection of US Highway 83 and ND Highway 200A, Washburn, North Dakota, head west on 8th Street SW, 2.2 miles. Turn left, south, at signs for Fort Mandan and Fahlgren Park and continue approximately 0.2 mile. Turn right into Fahlgren Park. The trailhead is in the park with a visible interpretive sign near the park restroom.

The trail then winds through cottonwood forest with interpretive signs. It continues to the bank of the Missouri River then turns east, following the river. It passes a bronze statue of Seamen, Meriwether Lewis' dog on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The trail continues along the river, then turns north onto the grounds of the reconstructed Fort Mandan. The trail turns west and goes to the visitor center. Continue across the road from the visitor center to a interpretive sign on the trail to complete the loop.
