Description

This trail starts and ends at two different points along the forest service road accessing the Pulaski County side of Bee Rock Campground. The highlight of this trail is an overlook at the top of Bee Rock, which gives beautiful views of the river below and surrounding hills.

For an easier climb (shallower grades), start at the western trailhead, which is the first one you'll see driving in. The trailhead is well-marked, and parking is available along the sides of the road. From the road, the trail climbs gradually through the forest for about 2/3 of a mile, passing rock overhangs and other formations.

At the top of the hill is a junction with Rockcastle Narrows Trail #503 leading off to the left. Continue to follow the trail to the right and you'll come to another junction. The trail itself leads to the left to head back down the hill, but don't miss the opportunity to follow the Bee Rock Viewpoint Spur straight ahead to the overlook. The continuation of the trail on the way back down is much steeper, but still well-marked and easy to follow. At one point, the trail passes under a rock overhang and behind a small waterfall, which creates a cool shady spot to take a break on a hot day.

Continue to follow the trail to the bottom of the hill, and you'll come out on the forest service road once again and a short run along the road can bring you back to your car. The eastern trailhead lies within the campground area, next to one of the campground's restroom facilities.

This is a fee area, so be aware if you choose to park on this end. Parking is also available on the other side of the river and accessible by a foot bridge.
