Areas of soft sand and some scrambling in a few areas make this a challenging but possible trail run.

From the trailhead in Calico Basin, there is a well-marked route that takes you around Kraft Mountain in the La Madre Wilderness. There are some spots where you need to use your arms to lift your body around large boulders. The trail is easy to follow for the most part. Big horn sheep are commonly seen in the early mornings and evenings on the back side of Kraft Mountain. There are lots of areas to boulder if you're looking to do a bit of rock climbing. IF going in CCW direction it is easy to miss the hairpin turn at about the half way point that climbs up and over the mountain.

Several different wildflowers. I also came across a herd of big horn sheep, lots of birds, and seeing a desert tortoise is common.
