Overview

This loop uses two very flat, wide trails and meanders through pine forest.

Need to Know

Google Maps will try to direct you into the bordering neighborhood by turning off Bartram Park Boulevard onto Pavilion Drive. Don't following these directions - instead, continue another 100 yards south of Pavilion Drive and turn onto an unnamed, single lane dirt road going off to the west. There is a sign for the trailhead but it's not obvious if you aren't watching for it.

Description

The trail circumnavigates the strip of land between Julington and Durbin creeks but the creeks are never in view on this particular route. Most of the trail is hard-packed sand or grass covered. The trail is extremely easy as there are no roots, rocks, or elevation changes.

Most of the trail is shaded but there are short sections with no trees. This featured run follows sections of the White Blaze Trail and Yellow Trail, each of which is marked by painted blazes on the trees lining the trail. There is an option to shorten the run to 3 miles by staying on the White Blaze Trail rather than continuing onto the Yellow Trail around mile 1.5.

It's pretty open in parts so be prepared when it's hot and sunny!

This is a typical section of trail. Some sections are sandy dirt while others are grass-covered.

Met a guy studying butterflies. He told me there were 61 know species in the Julington-Durbin Preserve.
