The perfect trail for deep thoughts, the crushed gravel in this section poses little risk for tripping.

From the Elk Meadow Trailhead, take an initial slight right to turn onto the Sleepy S Connector which will lead you to the Painter's Pause Trail.

The trail gradually turns to the north, and continues straight. You'll pass the old Bergen Barn on your right while continuing to junctions with the Founder's Trail and the Meadow View Trail. Keep straight/right at each junction to remain on the Painter's Pause Trail.

At the northern end of the trail, follow switchbacks first to the west, then east, before heading downhill and making one last eastern turn towards the Buchanan Recreational Center parking lot.

Tall meadow grasses populate the region, and bluebirds and woodpeckers often frequent the trailsides.
