Description

This path is an old railway following the Brembo river and leads straight through the beautiful mountains north of Bergamo. There are twelve well light tunnels along the way with the longest being about 300 meters. There are several bridge crossing along the way as well. Note that the entire path is marked with signs indicated by a cyclist logo so watch for those as you approach the various towns and hamlets.

Start at the old train station in Zogno. Pass through a Romanesque decorative tunnel early on. Next pass by the Ambria train station in disrepair. the trail now becomes more natural though you'll pass a factory on the far side of the river. Continue on, passing below the road and railway river bridges. Next you'll enter San Pellegrino (famous for it's sparkling water). This is a very picturesque town with a renovated train station. Pass behind the Grand Hotel, which was indeed grand in it's prime, though that was long ago.

Leaving San Pellegrino you'll pass through the first tunnel. Soon you'll be beside the main road for a short distance before heading off through the next tunnel and then another. This is followed by a bridge high over the river. Through another tunnel and you'll approach San Giovanni Bianco. Soon you'll pass by the San Giovanni Bianco train station over a bridge (with the river Enna passing beneath) and through another tunnel. Seven bridges span the two rivers passing through this small Medieval town.

Next you'll pass the old power station and then pass through several tunnels. These tunnels have unique, in the ground, lights to illuminate the tunnels. You'll pass an old chapel, a couple more tunnels and finally a newly constructed bridge over the river.

Next you'll pass the Lenna train station and then through another tunnel. When you emerge from this last tunnel, the path will end immediately at the Piazza Brembana train station.
