Runner Notes

If you twist your ankle crossing the Right Fork of Chimney Top Creek, there is no easy way out. Take care on Buck Trail as it is a long run in and out on a gimp leg.

Description

From Koomer Ridge Trail, Buck Trail immediately begins a descent into the Right Fork of Chimney Top Creek. The trail is in good shape, and the footing is good, but take care near the bottom when you can first see the creek as there is some slick limestone embedded in the trail.

After the rapid descent from the ridge, you get a heartbreakingly short reprieve before beginning the climb up to Pinch Em Tight Ridge. This thigh melting climb is lovingly referred to as "Buck You."

Just when you think you've got your lungs and legs back Buck Trail terminates at the Sheltowee Trace. You can swing right, drop down into Chimney Top Creek again, and return to Koomer Ridge and Buck Trail junction with a short jaunt on Rough Trail before picking up Koomer Ridge at the base of Cuss Joe Hill.
