Runner Notes

This is a very rocky trail.

Description

Dummy Line Trail Starts off of the Toll Gate Trail and runs to Fearn Street on Monte Sano Mountain on land controlled by North Alabama Land Trust. It was constructed by a local mountain biking club.

The entirety of the trail is singletrack, a majority of which runs parallel to Bankhead parkway and can be seen from the trail. This is a well-established trail with many spots where time and effort has been put in to build the trail up. There are nicely constructed rock steps, wooden bridges, and small retaining walls.

At 0.3 miles, the trail intersects with the Land Trust Panther Knob Trail.

The trail ascends almost the entire time with only a few rolling sections. As it gets closer to Fearn Street, it starts to switchback and climb up. That is the most fun part of the trail and the most difficult. This section features more bridges that are extremely slippery when wet.

Eventually, the trail comes out onto a wide shoulder on Fearn Street. If you choose to you can park here as well. This spot does not directly connect you to any trails either, but you can get to the closed section of Bankhead parkway which gives you access to Monte Sano State Park.
