Description
From the intersection with
Elwha River Trail, the Humes Ranch / Long Ridge Trail branches off downhill to the southeast. This trail descends gently across a hillside through dense forest towards the Elwha River. Before reaching the river valley bottom, pass the
Humes Ranch Meadow Connector and the eastern end of the
Geyser Valley Trail. Cross Antelope Creek and Idaho Creek then arrive at the Elwah River on a scenic suspension bridge high over the water. This is where the Humes Ranch / Long Ridge Trail ends and the
Long Ridge Trail begins.
The Humes Ranch / Long Ridge Trail visits Michael's Cabin and Humes Ranch. Evidence of former homesteading activity can be seen in the meadows planted with fruit trees. The story goes that Michael's Cabin was owned by "Cougar Mike" who kept the local mountain lion population under control. There are also a number of pretty campsites along the river bottom here.
