Overview
Around April, the Wenatchee Foothills come alive with a vibrant display of balsamroot and lupine. The winding trails occasionally shift course due to ongoing maintenance and restoration efforts. Hiking from Kenzie's Landing to Gut Saddle offers runners (and mountain bikers) multiple options: continue on the Sage Hills Trail (aka
The Gut) to explore the Horse Lake Reserve, retrace your steps, or (if accessible) return to the trailhead via the
Coyote Canyon trail.
Description
Multiple trailheads provide access to the Wenatchee Foothills, but the Kenzie's Landing trailhead has both a vault toilet and ample overflow parking. Go straight from the gate and follow the trail (and maintenance signs) until you reach the Gut Saddle that is supposed to be a four-way fork. Go straight and you'll continue on the Sage Hills Trail. Turn left and you'll head back to the trailhead via the
Coyote Canyon trail. Turn right and you'll find the Jackhammer Trail that is meant for mountain bikers (and can be very narrow and steep for runners in some sections).
