Need to Know
Restrooms at both ends. The wide trail is covered with boulders in a few areas but easy to navigate.
Runner Notes
I ran up. A few rock slides are in the way of the main wide trail.
Description
"The Slide Trail - Upper Trailhead," is 22 minutes (10miles) from Taos accessed by driving south out of town on Rt 68 and heading west on Rt 110, past the Taos Country Club to the very end of the road. Once in the parking lot, go to the north side of the lot (on the right as you pull in) and look for a small pole-sign that says "THE SLIDE."
Follow this path as it curves left (west) and curves some more (south) within the first few hundred yards. From there, the mostly wide path is easy to follow all the way down the side of the canyon with a small creek (Rio Pueblo De Taos) on your right. Follow this trail for about 1.2 miles to the "The Slide Trail - Lower Trailhead." Or go another 1/2 mile along the road to the Rio Pueblo Campground to see the Rio Grande and use a bathroom. Turn around and run back up. 3.4 miles round-trip.
