Need to Know
This park is in the Driftless Area – terrain that was not pulverized by glaciers during the last ice age and hence lacks the glacial remains known as drift. It's landscape is characterized by steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology (which gives rise to world-class cold-water trout streams).
Description
This trail runs, between First Bridge and Third Bridge, along the edge of a bluff formed by the South Branch of the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River. It can be accessed via either First Bridge (parking is at the picnic area) or from a parking lot (past the zoo) at Third Bridge. From First Bridge it goes north along the river before climbing gently to an observation platform overlooking the river and Second Bridge. It then does into and out of a creek drainage before contouring eastward above the river to Third Bridge.
