Branching off Shoreline Trail shortly after leaving the parking lot, the trail quickly gains elevation and offers views of Lake Hennessey. A quarter mile further, the trail levels out. At a hairpin curve, Sam the Eagle Trail is to your right, shortly after followed by Catacoula Trail to your left. The next mile is gently uphill with few views of the lake itself. After reaching the highest point at about 1.5 miles, views open up again to your right. The trail stays on the ridge for a bit. After crossing the junction with Conn Peak Trail and Whiskey Ridge Trail, it descends, mostly very steeply, to join Chiles Creek Trail and Shoreline Trail.
