Need to Know

Parking is plentiful and well-marked. The camp store offers a variety of snacks and the resort had a full restaurant for food options.

Description

This trail offers a pretty walk through the woods of Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park. This out and back trail starts near the campground store, but has several other access points that allow runners to vary the length if desired. Look for the trailhead at the bottom of a gully east of the store. After a short distance through the woods, the trail emerges back into an open field south of the mini-golf course, skirts the edge of the field, then returns to the woods for most of the remainder of the journey.

After about 3/4 mile the trail crosses a driveway, then at the 1 mile mark crosses a road near the picnic shelter, which offers parking and an alternate starting point for the run. Returning to the woods, the trail continues to wind along a ridgeline, and at about the 1.5 mile mark a spur leads off to the left to Cindy Cave. At around 1.8 miles the trail again emerges from the woods to cross a road and skirt the edge of the marina's alternate parking lot, which offers parking and another option for a shorter run.

Returning to the woods once again, the trail begins the home stretch to Eagle Point, again following a ridgeline. Finally, the trail ends at Eagle Point, an exposed rock point 150+ feet above the lake that offers views of the lake, islands, and surrounding countryside. Overall the trail is well-worn singletrack with decent footing. There are numerous markers along the trail with arrows to guide runners where the trail turns. Junctions with other trails are well-marked with signs labeling the various routes.
