The park is open daily from 8 AM until 10 PM. A daily ($7/day) or annual ($35/year) vehicle permit is required to park anywhere within the park. Do not attempt this run in the winter months unless you are properly equipped for travel on snow and ice.
Description
Inspiration Point is one of the five named viewpoints within the park. The shortest approach to it is from the parking area at the South Picnic Area.
Follow the Trout Run Creek Trail to Intersection Q (see park map) and the start of the climb to the point. The next 0.75 mi will involve singletrack trail on steep slopes along with some stairs and wooden boardwalks culminating in a climb of some very steep stairs. You'll know you reached the top when you see a bench and some rope guard rails. It's a short but challenging and exciting way to reach the views from the Point.
A longer and more varied approach to the Point, with less steep stairs, is from the
Chimney Rock Trail. Or you can combine this trail and the
Chimney Rock Trail, along with the Trout Run Creek Trail and a road, to make a loop.
