Description

The Butte is the easiest hike up a "mountain" you'll find in the Mat-Su valley. It's a great place to take visitors to Alaska thanks to the spectacular 360 degree view of the Knik Glacier, Matanuska Peak, Pioneer Peak, the Talkeetna Mountains, the Matanuska river, and the Mat-Su valley. The first mile or so is a wide gravel path that is very well maintained with only mild inclines and ends with a couple benches. The trail then gives way to stairs and a singletrack that switches back and forth up the mountain to a rocky/dusty summit.

Flora & Fauna

You may encounter moose along this trail.
