The Canyon Trail leaves the Cheyenne Rim Trail just south of the state line on a wide jeep road and heads east, sloping gradually downward. After a large horse water tank, a nice bit of singletrack heads left off the road and descends into the canyon eventually rejoining the road. Cross to the south side of the canyon and switchback up the trail to the ridge on the other side. From here, it's easy to join the Towhee Loop Trail.
