After leaving the parking lot, you enter the alien terrain of the high Andes. The area around Horcones has some vegetation, but as you run deeper in the valley the green seems to be squeezed out, leaving only brown, white, and red. The trail ascends at an even pace, but unless you are already acclimatized, the 10,000' altitude may feel laborious.
