Dirt access road to trailhead may be impassable when wet, but you can park and run from the turn-off.

Description

A short run to great views of the Nacimiento, Jemez, and Sandia mountains at the base of Cabezon Peak. The surrounding geology is really unique and features numerous volcanic plugs of which Cabezon is the tallest.

More adventurous types can attempt to summit the peak via the faint climbers trail, however serious injury or death could occur from a fall. Rattlesnakes are commonly seen on warmer days.

This is a family-friendly run if you stop at the end and enjoy the views. Return the way you came. Dogs allowed, but wouldn't consider it the best trail for dogs due to terrain and lack of water.
