This is a winter-only route. Stay on marked snowshoe trails in winter. This trail is for winter use only when snow covered.

Overview

This is a great combination of trails to create a loop with lookouts and terrain variations using snowshoe trails that are not maintained as hiking trails and get overgrown with poison ivy in the summer.

Description

Park in the Toronto Ski Club or Alpine Ski Club parking lots depending on whether you want to start the run with a flat, street run or end the run with the flat street run. The route as it is mapped here is shown parking at Alpine and starting with the flat street run.

Climb the escarpment on the South Ascent Trail, a steep run that goes pretty much directly from base to top of the escarpment in a single push. Run across the top on the relatively flat Bruce Trail to reach the rest of the Alpine snowshoe trails. Connect with The Switchback to take a gentler run down, and at the ski run, take Lovers Loop back up the escarpment. This is, again, a steeper, direct run back up.

From here you can use Enchanted Forest to connect to Robins Run and finally the River Route to weave a route back to the base.
