Need to Know

The trail is not well established. The poison oak has been trimmed back.

Description

On Highway 66, cross Emigrant Creek as it enters the lake, and make an immediate left turn. Follow road to end, where private roads start. There is a parking area just before a wood bridge. Cross the bridge and enter the trail at the left side of the private road, which has a gate.

For the first 1.2 mi from the parking area, the terrain is relatively flat. There is no established main (human) trail and a great number of game trails. But some of the game trails are more used than others (by both animals and humans) and seem to be developing into actual use trails. Just before reaching Helms Cove, look for a well-worn use trail that will it easier for you to traverse the steep southeast side of the cove. About 0.2 mi before the dam, look for another well-worn use trail to help you get across some very steep terrain just before the dam.

The trail goes along the lake all the way to a dam, which has no public car access. If you are adventurous, you can cross the dam, and climb to top of the rock climbing area on the Emigrant Lake North Shore Trail.

The trail is on public land as the county owns strip of land around entire lake.

Flora & Fauna
