Need to Know

Sheep Corral Canyon Road may, at times, be difficult to impossible to access without a high clearance vehicle. Bikes are not permitted within the Gila Wilderness Area.

Description

This is a rough, remote and not often used trail in the Gila high country. However, horseback riders and cattle frequent this section of singletrack, so use caution when running. To access this trail, follow Sheep Corral Canyon Road off of Highway 15 for approximately seven miles until you arrive at an old corral that will often have one or more mules or horses on it.

At the corral, you'll see a singletrack intersection. One way will take you onto Tadpole Ridge Trail #232 (south) while the other direction (north) toward the corral will take you down this rough, rocky and often off-camber section of singletrack.

From the corral, you'll mostly head downhill. Simply follow the trail until it intersects the Snow Creek Trail #233 ("Forest Trail"). From here, you are close to the wilderness boundary, so caution is advised.
