Need to Know

While DR is wooded in many places, Valley Loop Trail and Ginny Trail are treeless, so plan accordingly for the heat of the day in the summer. Summer mid-day temperatures can get quite hot.

Description

In 2000 the Bobcat Gulch Fire burned much of what is now the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area. The land is now managed by the City of Fort Collins, which has built a number of trails.

Start by running 1.5 miles across the Valley Loop Trail to reach the bottom of DR Trail. The trail then climbs through nice terrain to eventually connect with the top of the Ginny Trail and the Powerline Trail. This is a beautiful run that gets you away from most people in Bobcat Ridge. Since mountain bikes are not allowed on this trail and it is far enough away from the parking area to make it a solid day's run, fewer people venture out to run DR Trail. You may encounter the occasional horse en route.

A complete loop through the Valley Loop Trail, DR Trail, and down the Ginny Trail makes a wonderful 11 mile run with about 2000 feet of climbing.
