Runner Notes
The trail is primarily made from compacted stone. Gaiters can help to keep pebbles out of your shoes.
Description
This portion of the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail consists of compacted stone. The portion nearest the English Hill Trailhead consists of a series of small hills that provide variation in scenery. As the trail nears the Trace, the trail flattens out for easier running.
Before intersecting with the Trace, the trail intersects with the North/South Trail. Signage makes the route clear. Shortly before arriving at the Golden Pond Visitor Center, runners must cross the Trace. While motorists should stop for runners and bikers, caution is recommended since some traffic may be fast.
Many people set out on this trail and run a portion of it before retracing their steps and returning to their vehicle. Whatever you're looking for, this is a great trail.
Flora & Fauna
The trail showcases hardwood forests dense with oak and hickory trees. Watch out for poison oak and poison ivy. As always, spray for tick and be alert for venomous snakes.
