The Crab Eyes are located in the Charon's Garden Wilderness Area of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Unlike most wilderness areas, this one is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). No permits or fees are required to climb, but camping is by permit only. Wilderness rules and ethics apply. (580) 429-3222.

Description

The Crab Eyes Trail is named for the formation at the end of the trail at the top of some boulders that resemble what "crab eyes" look like. The view at the top is quite amazing and is well worth the trek.

To start the trail, begin from the Charon's Garden Trailhead. After a short run along the Charon's Garden Trail, you'll see signs for Crab Eyes. Then simply follow this trail up to the rock formation.
