Overview

A fantastic mixed use ecological park with accessible trails on the front of the park that give you either a half or a whole mile loop, a pavilion for picnics, a gaga ball pit, bird blinds, benches to sit on, and exercise areas. The back two loops consist of the Cedar Loop and the Prairie Loop that are mostly dirt/some mulch along really wet areas that give you great access to wildlife viewing and appreciation for the flora in the area and allow you to increase your mileage for the day to an almost 3-mile loop.

Need to Know

If you want to take the Cedar or Prairie loops, bring shoes you do not mind getting dirty during any wet seasons or after any rain as drainage in these areas is poor, and you are likely to lose a shoe if not mindful!

Runner Notes

The front half of Cedar Loop and the back half of Prairie Loop are quite soft and muddy during rainy seasons.

Description

The front half of this park is very well groomed gravel such that baby strollers would easily navigate the loop; diverting at the cut to the Cedar Loop takes you on the margins of a field in the midst of being reclaimed by forest, so many eastern red cedars are here that it is nearly impossible to see across the small field! Moving into the Prairie Loop, you get to see a managed prairie that during the summer is host to all manner of butterflies and birds.

Flora & Fauna

Wildflowers galore, several tree species including the red cedar, yellow buckeye, elm, tulip poplar, oak and maple. Deer, squirrel and multiple bird species.

History & Background

This park was a bequest of Will and Harriet Miller, and was formerly part of their family farm that has been in continuous agricultural use for more than a century.
