Description

Grindstone Ridge is an intermediate trail located in the Raccoon Mountain Trail System. It features a creek crossing, long steep switchbacks, rocky sections, and lots of roots.

The trail can be accessed from a variety of points: The Switch Yard Trail, The Switch Yard Parking Area, Small Intestine Trail, Megawatt Trail, and the Visitors Center (No Parking at Visitor's Center).

Starting form the end of the Switch Yard Trail, the trail splits into a top flat, service road type trail and a bottom singletrack. Both meet up before the creek crossing. Access to the Switch Yard parking lot can be found just after the creek crossing. The trail continues through the intersection of the Small Intestines Trail. From here, the trail heads up a long switchback. At the top of Grindstone Ridge are some fun rocky sections. The trail heads out of the woods briefly, makes a short climb and then takes a fun turn down the ridge. The Megawatt trail picks up on the right, or you can make an exit to the Visitors Center. A large wooden sign helps aid the proper direction.
