Runner Notes

Keep an eye out for an occasional loose board on the boardwalk and bridges. If the trail is dry, do not run on the concrete pavers. This trail could use some maintenance, as there are trees down, and heavy and thick grass and bushes when the trail goes under powerlines. Best entry is off Southwest Durham Drive.

Description

If you are a runner, this is the place for you. The New Hope Creek Trail portion is a winding jaunt through the forest that closely follows New Hope Creek. Surprisingly, the trail is relatively quiet, being so close to 15/501( Durham/Chapel Hill Blvd.). The trail is part of a natural floodplain, so it would be advisable not to run or hike after a heavy rain.

Flora & Fauna

Plenty of fauna, and tree cover.
