Trail shared by John Geronimo

An up-and-down, rough and rugged singletrack.

John Geronimo

Features -none-

This trail is typically snowy from November through February and may be closed during the summer months due to fire danger. Check with the USFS for current status.

Description

Gear Grinder begins at the intersection of Lower Pine and Pinon and runs west. It's a twisting trail with numerous rocky sections. Gear Grinder is definitely the most rugged trail in all of the eastern Otero area.

Regardless of which direction you do this trail, the amount of climbing and descending is about the same. You'll get a workout in both directions, but running from north (where it connects to Bear Scat Trail) to south is a net-downhill route.
