Overview
This pleasant family run works as a 2 mile RT to the beautiful Tiffany Lake, or a slightly more adventurous 4.6 mile RT to
Honeymoon Pass for sweeping views.
Description
This run starts on the south side of Tiffany Springs Campground. You'll take a well established trail down to Tiffany Lake. The trail is well maintained, and takes you through a forest recovering from fires in 2006. There is a wide variety of ecosystems along the way. From sparsely treed (even before the fires) grasslands to bogs and creeks. At the lake there are a few nice spots to relax and access to the water along the trail, just shy of a mile from the start. This section would be great for little ones, with just about 250' of descent over the first mile.
For the slightly more adventurous, continue on the trail for about another 1.4 miles to
Honeymoon Pass for panoramic views and a closer look a Tiffany Mountain. This section is a little steeper gaining about 650', but the trail is well maintained and easy to follow.
We went out and back, but the
Tiffany Lake Trail continues on and can tie into Freezeout Trail.
History & Background
In 2006 this area was involved in the Tripod Complex wildfire, one of the worst in the NW, burning more than 175,000 acres.
