This is a popular multi-use trail. Be alert for mountain bikes and dirt bikes as you run.

Description

The trailhead is on the north side of the creek, with abundant parking along the access road. There is space for tents and even an RV at the end of the pavement. Comales Campground is also nearby.

This is an old pack trail that follows the Canon Tio Maes, this trail has basically two sections. The lower 0.7 miles are steep and chunky. The upper section flattens out and much of it becomes a sandy trail.

This is a common pattern for the area: rugged down low and then mild terrain and old logging roads up high. There are three seasonal creek crossings along the way. The trail ends after a meadow where it intersects Ojito Maes Trail #182.

The area is open from late spring through fall.
