“A short trail with views of the Waiho River and the Franz Josef Glacier Valley.”— Kristen McGlynn
The trail then heads toward the wide Waiho River basin, where views of the valley open up briefly through the dense forest. In the 1950's, visitors used to be able to see the terminal end of the glacier at this point in the valley. It is both impressive and sad to see how much the glacier has receded, leaving a wide valley and the gray stone basin of the Waiho River behind.
