Runner Notes

The tread of the Nature Trail is gravel and very easy for runners. Just watch out for other trail users enjoying this popular entrance trail. Combines with Sidekick to complete a comfortable loop.

Description

This wide trail leads gently away from the East Trailhead. Running along this popular multi-use trail is easy, and the nearby marsh and forest views are quite pleasant. The wide bench was accomplished by impressive rock work, which is easier to see next to a wooden bench near the start of the trail.

The trail continues toward the intersection with Sidekick, just before a volunteer-built bridge, passing a few signs identifying the area's history and flora. On the other side of the seasonal stream, the trail rises to a picnic table where it meets the start of Cairn.

Flora & Fauna

Along with various trees and shrubs, runners might see a variety of birds including several types of woodpeckers. In the warmer months, the bright blooms of skunk cabbage can be found in the marshy areas.
