Runner Notes

The trail surface varies from nearly smooth by the lake to moderately technical. A few steep and fairly rocky ascents and descents keep things interesting. The fastest and best singletrack in the park is on the ridgelines of this trail.

Description

Park near the beach area and catch the Lakeside Trail. From there, run clockwise around lake to catch the red-blazed Big Red Trail. Run the entire red loop (clockwise or counterclockwise) to arrive back at lake and hence back to parking area.

Maps are available at park office, but all major trail junctions are equipped with laminated, topographic trail maps; it is very easy to navigate on the go. Once you are away from the lake, this is a nice, secluded loop that is never crowded.

Flora & Fauna

Typical of Appalachian hardwood forest. Hunting allowed in applicable seasons on the back side of park. Wear bright colors if hunting season is in!
