Some mildly technical section. The loop generally descends from the trailhead and then climbs back up. There are high cliffs at the easternmost part of the loop,

Running counter-clockwise the Red Trail begins a long steady descent on a wide singletrack trail through interesting hollows with historic features along the way.

At the bottom of the descent, there is a quick side trip to an overlook above the Kentucky River palisades. Catch your breath and begin the long winding return to the parking lot. When you think it's over you'll have another climb. Or two.

This is a great run not too far from the maddening crowds of Lexington.
