Bear poop. Few minutes later, rustling in the bushes. Saw bear loping away. Bear stopped, turned, got up on his back legs, looked at me. I looked at Bear. Both of us turned and left, away from each other. Me yelling "Hey Bear" down the trail. Black bear.

Looking back down the trail, vivid red fall foliage is everywhere along the trail. Mountain views in the distance on the far side of the Pack River Valley (left), and closer on the far side of the West Branch of the Pack River Valley (right).
Climbing up the trail, bright reds of fall are a contrast to the ever green conifers.
The West Branch of the Pack River (not seen) runs in the nearby valley below. Rugged peaks of Idaho's Selkirk Mountains are on the far side of the valley. Seen looking south from Chimney Rock Trail.
The beginning of the rock slabs as the trail climbs high. Watch for cairns (bottom left) to stay on track on the rock slabs.
Roman Nose Peak (left) and the forested ridge on the far side of the Pack River valley, are all in the distance. Close by on the left, is the ridge on the far side of the Chimney Creek valley. Looking east from high on Chimney Rock Trail.
