Bear poop. Few minutes later, rustling in the bushes. Saw bear loping away. Bear stopped, turned, got up on his back legs, looked at me. I looked at Bear. Both of us turned and left, away from each other. Me yelling "Hey Bear" down the trail. Black bear.
Climbing high over the rock slabs, Chimney Rock (center) emerges to the northwest.

Chimney Rock (center) towers above a boulder field basin. The ridge on the left is part of the northeast shoulder of Mt. Roothaan, 7,326 ft. Both are on the Selkirk Crest.
Climbing up the trail, bright reds of fall are a contrast to the ever green conifers.
Looking back down the trail, vivid red fall foliage is everywhere along the trail. Mountain views in the distance on the far side of the Pack River Valley (left), and closer on the far side of the West Branch of the Pack River Valley (right).
